‘Fragments’,' represents many years of first-hand research based on field trips to Appalachia and other rural areas in order to understand the origin of rural musicians, and of their music.

The book traces older roots of this music prior to its American re-shaping by early immigrants that migrated into the hills of Appalachia and beyond. Within these pages the author attempts to answer the question, “How old really, were these songs” also “How and where did they originate?” 'Fragments' hopes to give some answers to these questions

The book also is devoted to the memory of Albert Shewmaker, An American who grew up in the great depression in Kentucky and saw ‘first-hand’ the growth of early ‘Country Music’ It includes excerpts describing this era and of musicians from his correspondence to the Author over a ten year period. He spent his entire life researching the history of the early country musicians and collecting their recordings.

‘Fragments’ explores old ballads from extant faded British sheet music and ballads found pasted in an old Civil War ledger and Appalachian Folk ballads, together with transcriptions of very early Rural and Country Music lyrics obtained from rare 78rpm records of the Author’s personal collection.
